Renters Speak.org is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the controls you have over your information.
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and account credentials. When you submit a review, we store the landlord name and property details you provide, your star rating, written review text, and any photo or document attachments you choose to upload. We also automatically log the date and time of submissions and your account ID to associate reviews with your profile.
Your account email is used for authentication, membership notifications, and support communications. Review content — including landlord names, ratings, and written feedback — is displayed publicly to all site visitors in search results and on landlord profile pages. Your chosen author name (not your account email) is shown alongside reviews you submit.
Landlord profiles are created by community members when they submit a review. Each landlord entry stores the name, property address, city, state, and ZIP code provided by the reviewer, along with an aggregated average rating calculated from all associated reviews. This data is publicly searchable so renters can look up landlords before signing a lease.
All reviews can be flagged by community members if they are believed to violate our Community Guidelines. Flagged reviews are reviewed by moderators who may resolve the flag (keeping the review live) or dismiss it. Reviews may also be removed if they contain prohibited content. We do not edit review text — we only publish, flag, or remove it.
Your account remains active as long as you use the platform. Reviews you submit remain published unless you delete them or they are removed by moderators. If you cancel your membership, your account and reviews remain intact — you simply lose access to read other members' reviews until you resubscribe. You may request permanent deletion of your account and all associated reviews at any time by contacting support.
We use Stripe to process membership payments. Stripe receives your payment information directly — we never store your credit card number, CVV, or other sensitive payment details on our servers. Stripe's privacy policy governs how they handle your payment data. We do not sell or share your personal information with any other third parties.
You have the right to view, edit, or delete any review you have submitted, accessible through the My Reviews page. You may update your profile name and password at any time from your Profile page. You may cancel your membership at any time from the Billing page. To request a full account deletion, contact our support team.
We employ industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted authentication tokens and secure database storage. Access to account data is restricted to authenticated users only. However, no system is perfectly secure — we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to report any suspicious activity to our team immediately.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we'll update the revision date at the bottom of this page. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
